Santa Language Activities for Kids with Free Printables

Sunshine is very passionate about Santa during the holiday season. The only other character that compares is her favorite Christmas reindeer.

In honor of her love for Christmas and the man in the red suit, I created Santa themed learning activities which include these Santa Language Activities for Kids with Free Printables.

Sunhine is LOVING these activities and looks forward to them every day.

I love that because the activities are Santa themed, I'm able to observe where Sunshine's skill set level is at without her stressing out over school work.

The majority of the printables used in this post comes from our Montessori-inspired Santa Printable Pack which is included in our Christmas Bundle on sale now at 75% OFF for only $11.99 through Tuesday, December 13, 2022.

Montessori-inspired Santa Printable Pack

This bundle includes over 300 pages of resources to use with preschool and early elementary students at school or at home.

It includes three printable packs:

  • Santa Printable Pack
  • Christmas Reindeer Printable Pack
  • Christmas Skip Counting Printable Pack

As I've already mentioned, Sunshine is using contents from this bundle and absolutely loving it!

Let's take a look at all that Sunshine's been doing!

Santa Playdough Spelling Activity

Santa Playdough Spelling Activity Presentation

Sunshine is provided with nomenclature vocabulary cards, letter cookie cutters, homemade red playdough, and a rolling pin. (She also used a cheese spreader to poke playdough out of cookie cutters not shown.)

Christmas Playdough Spelling Activity

Sunshine rolled out the dough (with some help), organized her letter cookie cutters in alphabetical order, and went to town spelling words of her choice, using the Santa vocabulary cards as controls.

If she were more confident in her spelling, I'd choose to provide pictures without words.

Santa Playdough Spelling Activity Completed

I love that she chose a specific theme for her work and completed it without breaks or prompts.

Sunshine particularly likes working with capital letters as they all line up and don't look crooked.

Santa Stamp Spelling Activity

Santa Stamp Spelling Activity

I am always looking for fun and creative ways to practice spelling and to help Sunshine with her reading skills.

This activity has been a huge hit and also helps with fine motor skills, hand and eye coordination, as well as strengthening hands and fingers.

Sunshine goes through and stamps all of the boxes that spell the word, "Santa" correctly. When she is finished she finds that the stamps create a surprise image for her to enjoy.

Each day she picks a new word to work on, revealing a new image at the end of the activity.

Santa Letter Sound Clip Cards

Santa Letter Sound Clip Cards

One aspect of creating printables and activities for Sunshine right now is providing opportunities for her to show me what she knows, without challenging her or confronting her too much, and provoking unnecessary behaviors.

I love this activity because it's so flexible to every possible skill set option. There are clip cards for those who are learning beginning sounds.

For an extra challenge there are clip cards that focus on ending sounds.

Then, for those who are further along in their language journey there are short and long vowel sound options as well as phonograms and consonant blends.

Sunshine will select cards she feels comfortable with and mark the answers using the red glass beads provided.

Santa Vocabulary Counting Syllables Clip Cards

Santa Syllable Counting Clip Cards

Counting syllables is such a great way to work on pronunciation and separating letter sounds.

This activity takes all of the Santa themed vocabulary and turns every word into a syllable counting clip card.

Sunshine will select cards she feels comfortable with and mark the answers using the red glass beads provided.

Santa Vocabulary Writing Strips

Santa Writing Strips

If there's one skill that's regressed while Sunshine was in residential, it's her ability to write.

What's worse is that Sunshine is adverse to every method that has been tried and tested during her residential years.

So, I provide the work, the way I always have, and if she feels up to it, she tries it.

I'm hoping with time she'll gain more confidence in her skills and have a desire to take the time to improve them.

When she does choose this activity, she uses the washable white board marker provided to write her words, looking at the controls when needed.

Included in the printable pack are tracing strips as well.

If Sunshine finds the blank writing strips too difficult, we'll go back to tracing just to slow her down and help her feel confident.

Santa Adjective Clip Cards

Though Sunshine is only reading CVC words, that doesn't mean that she can't learn grammar! Bulldozer definitely taught me that when he was young.

Sunshine and I will read the cards and the options provided and select the correct adjective that describes the noun.

FREE Santa Reading Games for Kids

FREE Santa Reading Games for Kids

My main language goal with Sunshine is to help her feel confident in her reading, writing and spelling abilities. This means I'm constantly looking for fun ways to practice.

Sunshine loves games she is sure to win, so these games are an automatic success.

Sunshine will roll a die and move that many spaces on the board, reading each word she lands on to progress to her next turn.

I am providing the nomenclature cards as a control for this activity, in case she gets stuck. She can independently work her way through the problem of not knowing a word.

There are two boards included that only focus on Santa themed vocabulary.

Then there are two boards that divide words up into beginning and advanced language skills with a few sight words along the way.

If your child needs a control like Sunshine does, and doesn't know many sight words, I would not choose to use those game boards.
