Our Pediatric Mental Health Crisis Up Close and Personal

In May of 2018, our family experienced something I pray no other family ever has to go through.  Our youngest daughter, Sunshine, who was six years old at the time, was in the midst of a mental health crisis.  She was a danger to others and to herself.

No amount of increased supervision, behavioral and sensory intervention, or acts of love could change what was going on.

She needed help.

This is our story-Our Pediatric Mental Health Crisis Up Close and Personal.

We share so that no one else in this situation ever has to feel alone.

We share so that others won't have to go through what we went through if it's at all possible.

We share because this is life.

This is real.

There is no shame in getting help and we want our daughter to know that.

Everyone has something and should be able to get help when they need it.

Our Story

These images lead to posts that tell our story in the order it unfolded.  They are raw and filled with so many emotions.

Some details have been left out to protect the privacy of our daughter.

Please be kind and respectful in your thoughts and comments as you read.

We hope that by sharing our story we can help others and create change.

The mental health systems in our nation is broken.  Nothing will change until enough speak out and demand it.

Help us save the next generation from the suffering that so many others have already had to endure.

Please also help us lift the stigma surround mental health issues.

We want desperately for our daughter to live in a compassionate world filled with understanding and acceptance, knowing that at one point or another all of us will have personal mental health struggles.
