In the Montessori language album for elementary students, under the word study section, the idea of word families is introduced.
Word families are made up of words that use the same root word, like in the image below.
When I searched for resources as to how to word families in my classroom, I had no luck. This is when I decided to create the Montessori Word Families Printable Pack.
This resource of 14 pages includes multiple sorting sets to help students understand and master the concept of word families.
When I was first introduced to the concept of word families, I wasn't sure my students would enjoy working with them.

They find it fascinating to see how many words can be created using the same root word.
After working with these printables, my students decided to come up with their own words and create word families to go along with them.
