St. Patrick's Day Math Activities for Kids with Free Printables

St. Patrick's Day Shamrock Skip Counting by Three Clip Cards

St. Patrick's Day Shamrock Skip Counting by 3s Clip Cards

Sunshine has been learning how to skip count by three for a couple months now using our favorite Skip Counting by 3s song. I love how this song includes dance breaks that invite movement.

Now that she knows her Skip Counting by 3s song by heart, I wanted to encourage her to use that knowledge and apply it to an activity on the shelf.

What I love about these cards is that they pick up at various numbers, and include a different missing number as you go along.

When choosing this activity, Sunshine selects a card, and sings her Counting by 3s song, if necessary, to find the answer.

If by chance, she is unable to find the answer, she can use the shamrocks to count three numbers up from the last number provided.

Once she finds her answer, she marks it with a green glass bead, and moves on to the next one.

Sunshine really enjoyed this activity. It built her confidence in her skip counting abilities. There was only one time when she chose to use counters, which was more of a choice made because they looked cool, rather than needing them.

St. Patrick's Day Four-Leaf Clover Skip Counting by 4s Hundred Board Activity

St. Patrick's Day Four Leaf Clover Skip Counting by 4s

We have been working on skip counting by 4s using a fun and fabulous Skip Counting by 4s Song. Sunshine absolutely loves it!

Each morning as part of her "morning work," aka required work, she watches the video of this song and sings along. It usually takes Sunshine about a month to learn a skip counting song, before we move on to the next one.

The St. Patrick's Day Four-Leaf Clover Skip Counting by 4s Hundred Board activity is a way that Sunshine takes the song and applies it to an activity. She is then asked to take the concept one step further and work her way to one hundred, rather than just stopping at the number forty-eight.

Sunshine really enjoyed this activity, asking to listen to the Skip Counting by 4s song first. She then colored all of the correct numbers, skip counting by four, all the way to one hundred.

An erasable colored pencil was used to color in squares just in case mistakes were made.

Sunshine did really well with this activity, needing some assistance, as she'd loose track of numbers, but other than that, she understood the basic concept.

St. Patrick's Day Pot of Gold Addition with Coins Clip Cards

St. Patrick's Day Pot of Gold Coin Addition

Memorizing addition facts is something that Sunshine really struggles with. I may need to find some addition fact songs to help her in this process.

Sunshine is proficient at addition problems using counters, when she slows down enough to make sure her counts are accurate.

Each month I've been rotating out addition and subtraction, trying to help Sunshine focus in on a different set of facts. This month we're working on adding two to single digit numbers.

The St. Patrick's Day Pot of Gold Addition with Coins Clip Cards have proven to be a great way to practice skills. Sunshine loves the plastic gold coins.

St Patrick's Day Hat Measuring Activity

St. Patrick's Day Hat Measuring Activity

Sunshine has been showing interest in measuring, so I thought this St. Patrick's Day measuring activity would be great to try.

I was so excited to see her learn, practice and master this skill independently down to the half inch!

Sunshine would use the ruler, measuring from the bottom to the top of each hat. She would then select the measurement card that matched the hat.

St. Patrick's Day Pot of Gold Subtraction Clip Cards

FREE Saint Patrick's Day Math Printable Pack

When Sunshine saw her St. Patrick's Day Math activities on her shelf, she noticed that I had no subtraction activity. To my surprise, she asked for one. Sunshine requested that we subtract pots of gold, so that's the activity made.

Each clip card includes the total number of pots of gold and a subtraction problem. In order to solve the problem, Sunshine uses flat white glass beads to cover the pots of gold the subtraction problem mentions. She can then find her answer by counting the pots of gold that are left.

St. Patrick's Day Editable Board Game

Sunshine is all about games she is sure to win. Games also seem to be a fun way to review information without frustration.

As part of her "morning work" aka required work, Sunshine played this game using +1, -1, +2, and -2 math facts. It was a great review for her.

Usually one marker was used. Mom or Dad would take turns rolling the die and she would count out the spaces. She would solve each problem using counters if needed, and then move on from there. Sunshine really enjoyed knowing there was an end to the activity when the team of two would win.
