Santa Lucia Day Nomenclature Cards

These nomenclature cards work so well at helping children learn about different vocabulary words related to Santa Lucia Day.

There is something so magical about matching up words and pictures when using a control!

If you have a child who's not a fan of nomenclature cards, this printable can easily work as a memory or matching game.

Number cards can be used in a variety of ways. The set included in the printable is set up in nomenclature style.

But, for this activity I decided to utilize the printable in a different way.

Instead of matching two cards together, kids can count out objects to match the number on the cards.

I created saffron buns using salt dough.

Mini wreaths came from our local Walmart.

The red ribbon came from my wrapping supply.

Candles were in my candle stash.

The Santa Lucia Day counting cards include beautiful true-to-life images of Santa Lucia Day saffron buns, red ribbons, wreaths used for Santa Lucia Day crowns, and candles.

Santa Lucia Day Number Counting Clip Cards

Once kids are comfortable counting objects in the previous activity, or they choose not to use an activity with so many manipulatives, they can choose this one!

The nomenclature cards and clip cards include numbers 1-20.

In my classroom, I am using the nomenclature cards with manipulatives for numbers 1-10 and clip cards for numbers 11-20.

All of the cards have the same beautiful images.

Kids will use glass beads to mark their answers.

Santa Lucia Day Saffron Bun Play Dough Activity

It's one thing to learn the sequence of making saffron buns for Santa Lucia Day but yet another to learn how to shape the buns.

Here I use images from my favorite recipe for Santa Lucia Day Buns as a control to help kids learn how to shape their own Santa Lucia Day Buns.

Dough is actually homemade yellow play dough. I provide dried black beans to use in place of raisins so I don't have to worry about a sticky mess.

Santa Lucia Day Star Boy Craft

Santa Lucia Day Star Boy Craft

Santa Lucia is definitely the focus of Santa Lucia Day, but boys can participate in the special day by being Star Boys.

In this activity children can make Star Boy hats by folding and stapling (or gluing) the white sheet of paper into a cone that fits the head properly.

Kids can then trace stars on the yellow sheets of paper using the cookie cutter provided.

Once stars are cut out they can be glued or stapled onto the white hat.

This is a super fun craft that allows children to practice cutting, gluing and stapling skills.

Santa Lucia Day Crown Decorating Activity

Santa Lucia Day Crown Decorating Activity

On Santa Lucia Day, the oldest daughter, or chosen girl, wears a crown with candles and greenery, similar to a wreath.

The specific greenery used for the crown is not something that is found locally, so I found the next best thing at our local dollar store.

Besides the wreath of greenery, you can see the Santa Lucia Day crown without candles. We purchased our crown several years ago. It is no longer available.

For this activity, kids decorate the greenery on the Santa Lucia Day crown and then place the candles in each of the spots provided.

Decorations have clips to help kids practice their pincer grasp.

I found decorations at our local Walmart store.

Candles are battery operated for safety and came with the crown.

The final product looks absolutely beautiful.

In our classroom kids don't put the crown on, as it is very special and can break.

If you're working with kids who may not be able to understand and follow this boundary, you could just have them decorate a simple small wreath without the gold crown and candles.

Learning and celebrating Santa Lucia Day can be so much fun with these Santa Lucia Day Activities for Tots and Preschoolers with Free Printables!
