Montessori-inspired Green Activities for Tots & Preschoolers w/ Free Printables

Sunshine has shown a fascination with colors lately.  As a result I'm following her lead and creating Montessori-inspired Green Activities.

These are specifically for tots and preschoolers and come with some great free printables.

I have thoroughly enjoyed taking a Montessori approach to colors as so much of the preschool materials are color coded.

The two bead bar is green.

The continent Africa is also green.

These activities also work well for St. Patrick's Day.

Here's what we're doing!

L is for...

Painting the letter L.

Sunshine has been working hard to identify and write the first letter of her name.  I was so impressed at how well she did!

Number 2 Sand Tray Practice

Writing the number 2 using a sand tray.

Sunshine did a great job writing the number one in her red sand tray.  I thought I'd see how she did with the number two in green sand tray.

Unfortunately, the task was too difficult for her.

It looks like we'll be incorporating some pre-writing activities in the future!

Two Green Beads

Stringing two green beads to represent the Montessori bead bar.

Sunshine did a fabulous job stringing two green pony beads on each green pipe cleaner, creating her own two bead bars.

Africa is Green

Montessori-inspired Africa play dough activity with free printable

I'm not sure if it was the green play dough, the map, or the activity itself, but Sunshine LOVED pulling this tray off the shelf to work.

She did a great job covering the continent with green play dough and then removed it to see if it looked the same.

As our time in the classroom progressed, she also added animal figures to her play dough map of Africa.

Oh, and did I mention how much I LOVE the way Sunshine says the word, "Africa" and talks all about the animals that live there?

Animals of Africa

Animals of Africa match up (with free printable)

When selecting this activity, Sunshine matched up animals to their corresponding cards. All of the animals are from Africa.  Sunshine LOVES animals, so this was quite popular.

Scooping Green Macaroni

Scooping green macaroni

Sunshine did extremely well spooning last week, so I thought I'd add a scoop to our transfer activity this time.

She struggled a little bit with the coordination required for the activity at first, but then she got it.

I loved using macaroni because when it spilled, it was easy to pick up.  Sunshine could do it all on her own.

Tweezing Green Pom Poms

Tweezing Green Pom Poms

I was so impressed at how much Sunshine has grown, as I watched her use the tweezers appropriately to transfer green pom poms from one bowl to the other.  It's so nice to see progress!
